Found this in a bathroom at my college. A lot of guys had eating disorders in football and wrestling at my school and even in the rec league. I remember guys taking laxatives before weigh ins even.

Male eating disorder awareness ~

Wrestling is infamous for that kind of shit. It’s one of the reasons my brother left the sport— his coaches were ENCOURAGING him to engage in unsafe behavior.

I’ve seen a lot of it the other way round, especially in rugby, I know several men who were encouraged to go to unsafe measures to gain weight.

Yes. ^^^ The masculinization of eating disorders. I knew some wrestling guys back in high school - it became this competition as to who could lose then keep of their weight the best. The guys would have competitions to see who could go the longest without eating, and if you lost, of course, you were a “pussy”
Thankfully a suspension went on while they reviewed these practices that were of course encouraged by the coaches.

Almost every wrestler I’ve met has engaged in ridiculously dangerous behavior at the encouragement of their coaches and even their own parents. My cousin would do unsafe amounts of exercise and then barely eat or only eat baby food as he dropped weight at alarming rates. But no one ever acknowledges these behaviors as being dangerous because it’s “for a sport”. We need to put an end to this.

Sports should be about improving your health, not “winning” IMO. I really hope this stops :/

Sgt. Thomas McVicar of the Jersey City Police Department shot 22 year old Kwadir Felton, leaving him blind, after Kwadir pulled a gun on him, he claims. Kwadir Felton denied the accusation, stating that he doesn’t even carry guns.

"I don’t understand!" Felton yelled at a police officer before his mother was removed from the courtroom. "You didn’t have to shoot me in the head for no reason! You trying to charge me with something I didn’t do!"

I was explaining to my 4-year-old cousin that some spiders will kill their mate for food after they have babies. I thought this was gross, but she was unimpressed as she said, "humans will kill each other for no reason, at least spiders kill each other for food." I have never been more ashamed to be a human in my life

If someone were to die at the age of 63 after a lifelong battle with MS or Sickle Cell, we’d all say they were a “fighter” or an “inspiration.” But when someone dies after a lifelong battle with severe mental illness and drug addiction, we say it was a tragedy and tell everyone “don’t be like him, please seek help.” That’s bullshit. Robin Williams sought help his entire life. He saw a psychiatrist. He quit drinking. He went to rehab. He did this for decades. That’s HOW he made it to 63. For some people, 63 is a fucking miracle. I know several people who didn’t make it past 23 and I’d do anything to have 40 more years with them.

One of the more helpful and insightful things I’ve seen about depression/suicide in the last couple of days.

Think Anorexia is funny? Sorry. I am a survivor and find NOTHING cute about this.

Wanna dress up like an Anorexic? All it takes is:

  • 4 years of hospitalization
  • A nasogastric feeding-tube because you’ve starved yourself so much that your body doesn’t recognize food as a good thing and tries to attack itself.
  • Re-Feeding Syndrome, which can kill you.
  • Emotional struggles for years.
  • A father crying and pleading on his knees begging for you to get help
  • A mother who cries every time she sees you because you look and SMELL like death.
  • Holidays missed, birthdays crying in a hospital.
  • Almost every major organ in your body failing.
  • A shower chair - because you can’t stand in the shower because you’re too weak and the warm water could make you pass out.
  • A wheelchair, because you are too weak to walk and it could make you go into cardiac arrest.
  • A lifetime of medications for anxiety and the health issues “Anna Rexia” caused.
  • Plenty of money for multiple ER trips due to “Anna Rexia” even in recovery.
  • And if you don’t get help like I do, or even if you do, a coffin. Because I’ve lost more friends to this eating disorder then anything I’ve ever faced.

I almost died from this. I know it’s supposed to be funny and shit and yeah I get that, but seriously. THIS IS NOT FUNNY. Anorexia is nothing to party about or laugh at. It’s real, it’s deadly, and should not be marketed as a slutty outfit.

Want to dress as “Anna Rexia”? Just go as a Vampire, or a Zombie. Because 1/3 of us are dead.

the fact that that costume even exists is absolutely disgusting

that’s probably the most offensive costume I’ve seen. just wow.
